Big Wall Street banks are putting average Americans and our economy at risk by continuing to make fossil fuel investments, which contribute to climate change and will suffer big losses as the world moves away from carbon energy.

The Federal Reserve reported that climate change increases risks of economic uncertainty and financial shocks to the system. For example, increased storm surges from more intense and frequent hurricanes that accompany climate change could decrease consumer home values and set off a chain reaction.

As we saw with the Great Recession, an economic crash caused by reckless Wall Street investments could result in millions of people losing their jobs, homes, and retirement savings.

I urge you to cosponsor and advance the Fossil Free Finance Act, which would require the big banks to stop financing fossil fuel emissions by 2050. Without legally binding benchmarks and accountability, the financial industry will continue to fund such projects and put us at risk.
